Switzerland
Valais, Switzerland
The Pearl of the Alps — a car-free village ringed by 18 peaks above 4,000m. Only 20% of runs are blue, but those that exist are exceptional: high-altitude glacier cruisers with extraordinary views and reliable snow from October to May.

Spielboden Gondola
From Spielboden at 2,448m, this is the classic intermediate descent at Saas-Fee. Take the gondola from the village base (5 min walk from the car park). The run curves gently south, following the moraine above the Fee Glacier, with the village visible far below. A long, satisfying descent.
The signature blue at Saas-Fee — long, wide, and consistently pitched with the full panorama of the 4,000m peaks surrounding you. The glacier calving below on your left is extraordinary. Take the Spielboden gondola from the village base.
Alpin Express (to Felskinn)
The Alpin Express funicular departs from underground in the village centre — follow signs from the main street. It takes you to Felskinn at 3,000m where the glacier runs begin. These are some of the most beginner-friendly blues in Switzerland, set among glacier scenery that feels like another planet.
Skiing on a working glacier at 3,000m+ among towering seracs and crevasses — yet the terrain itself is wide, easy, and consistently groomed. The combination of gentle skiing and dramatic scenery is hard to beat. Reliable snow from October through May.
Morenia Chairlift
The Morenia chairlift is reached from the Spielboden gondola mid-station. The Morenia area sits at around 2,800m and is one of the sunniest parts of the ski area — south-facing and well-protected. Multiple blue options fan out from the lift top.
The most sun-drenched sector at Saas-Fee. Wide blues with multiple line choices, reliable grooming, and far fewer people than the main glacier runs. Great for afternoon laps when the light goes golden.
Plattjen Gondola
The Plattjen gondola is on the east side of the village — a 10 min walk from the main street or a 5 min electric shuttle ride. The Plattjen sector is the quietest in Saas-Fee. The blue run winds through larch forest and deposits you back at the Plattjen base, from where you walk or shuttle back to the village.
The most atmospheric run at Saas-Fee — 9km winding through larch forest with the glacier towering above. Has one steeper section mid-mountain but it's manageable and the forest section below is magical. Best on a powder day when the trees are laden with snow.
Alpin Express gondola → Felskinn cable car
The Alpin Express gondola departs from the east of Saas-Fee village up to the Morenia mid-station at 2,550m. From there the second stage continues to Felskinn at 3,000m. The blue pistes 4, 4b and 4c connect to form one of the longest easy blue descents in Switzerland — up to 9km from Felskinn all the way back to the village. This is the signature run of the resort for intermediate skiers.
The signature blue descent in Saas-Fee — a long, consistently gentle descent from 3,000m with the enormous glacier towering above you and the 4,000m peaks surrounding you on all sides. One of the most extraordinary settings for an easy blue run anywhere in the Alps. Best skied in the morning when the snow is firm.
Spielboden gondola → Längfluh cable car
The Spielboden gondola departs from the village to 2,448m, then the Längfluh cable car continues to 2,870m on the edge of the Fee glacier. The blue runs from here descend across the glacier terrain with extraordinary close-up views of the glacier seracs above. Take the Feechatz drag lift to access the upper Allalin glacier blues if conditions allow.
The most dramatic glacier skiing in Saas-Fee — from Längfluh you are right at the edge of the Fee glacier with the ice above you. The blue runs here are wide and well-maintained. The combination of altitude, glacier scenery and accessible gradient makes this one of the best easy skiing experiences in Switzerland.
Metro Alpin funicular (from Felskinn)
The Metro Alpin is a unique underground funicular that connects Felskinn (3,000m) with Mittelallalin (3,500m) — the highest ski area in Switzerland and one of the few places in the Alps with summer skiing. The blue runs at this altitude are consistently gentle across the broad glacier plateau. The revolving restaurant at the top is a famous landmark.
Skiing at 3,500m in Switzerland — genuinely one of the most extraordinary easy-skiing experiences in the Alps. The Allalin glacier is vast and perfectly flat in places. The altitude means cold, consistent conditions even in spring. Look for marmots on the lower slopes on the way down.
Alpin Express gondola (mid-stage, Morenia)
Morenia is the mid-station of the Alpin Express gondola at 2,550m — a large intermediate zone above the village. Multiple blue runs fan out from here across the open slopes. This is where most ski schools operate and where progressing intermediates spend their time before heading to Felskinn.
The heart of intermediate skiing in Saas-Fee — consistently well-groomed, sunny in the morning, and with good views of the village below. The Morenia snowpark is here too. A good base for exploring the resort before committing to the longer Felskinn descent.
Heidbodme gondola (Saas-Almagell village)
Saas-Almagell is a separate small ski resort 7km from Saas-Fee in the Saas Valley, reached by the free shuttle bus (every 30 minutes from Saas-Fee). The Heidbodme gondola takes you to 2,400m where a network of easy blues descends to the valley at 1,673m. The home village of Olympic ski racers Heidi and Pirmin Zurbriggen.
Completely different from the main Saas-Fee area — quiet, uncrowded, and with a local Swiss character you don't find at the main resort. The blues here are easy and well-maintained. Worth a half-day trip for the change of scenery and the quieter experience.
Metro Alpin funicular (full descent from 3,500m)
The Panorama descent is Saas-Fee's signature long run — a 14km descent from Mittelallalin at 3,500m all the way down to the village at 1,800m following the glacier and then the lower piste network. It follows piste 10b from Allalin through Felskinn to Morenia, then continues to the village. Multiple mountain restaurants on the route.
One of the longest marked descents in Switzerland. The run is graded Blue+ because most of it is very manageable but there are sections that require confidence. The full descent from 3,500m to the village takes 45 minutes to an hour depending on stops. Stop at the Morenia restaurant midway for a coffee with extraordinary glacier views.
A car-free medieval village at 1,800m — one of the most beautiful in the Alps. All vehicles park at the village entrance; you reach your hotel by electric taxi or on foot. The village is compact, warm, and completely pedestrianised.

The village is walkable in 15 minutes end-to-end.
Electric taxis and hotel shuttles take you to accommodation.
Book accommodation with a guest card — it includes free public transport in the valley.
