Blue runs in Saint-Gervais: plan your day

Get the three place names straight first: Le Fayet is the railway gateway, Saint-Gervais is the town, and Le Bettex is a mountain base for the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area.

Choose your starting point
For the Mont d’Arbois learning area, look for Le Bettex and the Bettex–Mont d’Arbois gondola. Saint-Nicolas de Véroce has separate access points at Chattrix and Chef-Lieu.Operator access FAQ ↗Les Marmottons beginner area ↗
A place to build confidence
Les Marmottons sits opposite the Mont d’Arbois gondola arrival. It has a covered carpet, a drag lift and gentle practice slopes.Les Marmottons beginner area ↗
Four blues in this guide
Finance is above Le Bettex; Clémentines is on the Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce side. Prapacot and Encraty are toward La Princesse; they are not all laps from the same base.Évasion piste map ↗
A return worth knowing
The official Marmottons plan identifies Chateluy as a green descent to Le Bettex. That ends at Le Bettex, rather than in Saint-Gervais town or Le Fayet.Marmottons progression plan ↗Évasion piste map ↗

Questions before you go

Is Saint-Gervais good for beginners?

It has a dedicated place to start: Les Marmottons at Mont d’Arbois, reached by the Bettex–Mont d’Arbois gondola. The tourist office describes very gentle practice slopes there. Choose that learning area when you need practice; the blue pistes elsewhere are the next decision, not an automatic first lesson.

Where are the blue runs in Saint-Gervais?

Our source-reviewed profiles are Finance, Clémentines, Prapacot and Encraty. The last two are on the La Princesse side of the shared map. Use the individual profile and map together before setting out, especially if your lesson or accommodation is at Le Bettex.

Évasion piste map ↗
Can I get back down without a red run?

From the Mont d’Arbois learning area, the official progression plan names green Chateluy as the descent to Le Bettex. For a lift return, the operator publishes ascent-and-descent tickets for Bettex–Mont d’Arbois and for L’Alpin between Le Bettex and town. Ask the lift team about your pass and the last downhill cabin before you leave the base.

Can I reach the slopes by train?

Yes. Arrive at Saint-Gervais-les-Bains–Le Fayet station, take Le Valléen up to Saint-Gervais, then L’Alpin to Le Bettex. Mont d’Arbois is another gondola ride above Le Bettex. Keep those three stages separate when planning luggage, ski hire and your first lesson meeting point.

Is this the same ski area as Les Houches?

The tourist office publishes two different piste maps: Saint-Gervais / Évasion Mont-Blanc and Les Houches / Saint-Gervais. This page’s four blue profiles are on the Évasion map. A Les Houches booking or piste name should be checked against the other map.
