Choose a named piste, check how you’ll reach it, and plan the way back. Official blue grades help identify the run; your confidence and the day’s conditions matter too.
Chamonix is a valley with several ski areas. First choose where you will ski, then match the piste, lift, lesson and way home to that location.
Two places to start
The tourist office identifies Le Savoy in central Chamonix and La Vormaine at Le Tour as beginner areas. Neither name describes the whole mountain above it.Tourist-office beginner areas ↗
Use the Mont-Blanc Express and Chamonix Mobilité information to connect your accommodation with the chosen ski area. Check the stop closest to your lesson, rather than simply travelling to Chamonix centre.Valley arrival and transport ↗
Questions before you go
Is Chamonix one connected ski area?
Plan it as several areas in one valley. Brévent–Flégère, Balme / Le Tour–Vallorcine, Grands Montets and Les Houches have separate maps and access points. Choosing a hotel in Chamonix does not put every beginner area outside the door.
Le Savoy is a small learning area in central Chamonix. La Vormaine is at the base of the Le Tour area. Both appear in official beginner guidance. Confirm the lesson location first, then choose your transport and lift pass for that area.
Do not infer that from the blue Arve profile. Arve is an upper piste above Charamillon, while the marked descent to Le Tour village is red. Arrange the return separately with the lift team if you want to avoid that red descent.
No. The map’s blue Retour Flégère is an upper link within the ski area. The valley descent to Les Praz is black. Check the lift descent option and its closing time before treating a blue lap at Flégère as an easy ski back to your base.
